The renewable contract with UTGI reportedly includes take-or-pay provisions for at least 50,000 lines in the first year of service. VoX will provide its digital voice service to UTGI's customer base over one of the top-tier mobile networks in the US.
VoX Communications said that the service is the first true mobile VoIP plan in the US, enabling subscribers to make voice calls over the Internet directly from mobile phones, without the need for a computer, a Wi-Fi hotspot or any other device. In addition, as the company's technology needs only a data network, the partnership enables VoX to provide the service with greater cost benefits compared to the industry's latest offerings, which require both a data and voice plan.
With over 100 distributors committed to over 500,000 lines in the first year UTGI could exceed 1m lines in year one, with a target of 5m lines by the end of the second year, UTGI said. The company will launch two plans initially - one for domestic calling within the US, Canada and Puerto Rico and the other to include a large bundle of international minutes at no charge.
Per-line wholesale revenue for VoX is expected to exceed USD40 per line when the projected domestic and international usage and ancillary charges are taken into consideration.
