Federal prosecutors said Travis Ryan Klutts of Maize was arrested about 4 p.m. after taking refuge inside an outbuilding just southeast of Inman.
Authorities said Klutts also is a suspect in three recent robberies in Wichita.
Klutts, 27, was charged Friday in U.S. District Court in Wichita with one count of bank robbery in connection with the holdup of the First Bank in the Dillons store at 1216 N. Main in Newton.
Federal agents said the robber walked into the bank about 11 a.m. Friday with a handgun, handed a teller a note that said, "Give me all the money," and threatened to shoot anyone who resisted.
An affidavit filed with the case said the robber left the store in a pickup that was chased by officers from several law enforcement agencies as it entered McPherson County.
The truck overturned southeast of Inman, the affidavit said, and the robber ran into a nearby building. He held officers at bay for about four hours before being arrested.
The affidavit said Klutts is a suspect in three Wichita cases: The Aug. 29 robbery of a Walgreens near Central and Maize Road; the Sept. 26 robbery of the Intrust Bank in the Dillons store near 135th and Maple; and the lunch-hour robbery Monday of the Intrust Bank in the Dillons near 37th and Woodlawn.
If convicted of the Newton bank robbery charge, Klutts faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.
