SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Oct 13, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- RVBD | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the technology and market leader in wide-area data services (WDS), today announced its participation at Storage Networking World Fall 2008 taking place October 13 - 16, 2008 at the Gaylord Texan in Dallas, Texas. Storage Networking World is the world's largest and foremost storage networking event where IT management and professionals learn, network, and maximize their company's storage capabilities. At the Riverbed(R) booth (#607), the company will demonstrate its award-winning WDS solutions. In addition, Riverbed customer Activision Publishing, Inc. will share its real-world experience of how its implementation of Riverbed WDS supported Activision's goal of improving its product time to market.

Riverbed offers a complete WDS solution that accelerates applications and data for remote offices, data centers, and mobile workers across wide area networks (WANs), accelerating access to applications and data up to 100 times faster. The speed delivered by Riverbed WDS solutions allows organizations to be more nimble, flexible and competitive by enabling IT consolidation without sacrificing user performance, allowing higher productivity for remote offices, eliminating end user frustration caused by slow applications, dramatically shortening backup and replication times, reducing traffic on WANs, and even enabling significant improvements in mobile worker productivity.

Over 4,500 customers, over a wide range of markets, have implemented Riverbed WDS across their geographically dispersed organizations. Activision Publishing, Inc., a leading worldwide developer, publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment and leisure products, will discuss its experience with WDS at Storage Networking World Fall 2008.

Who: Thomas Fenady, Senior Director, Information Technology, Activision Publishing, Inc. When: Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008 9:25 a.m. - 10:10 a.m. Where: The Gaylord Texan Dallas, Texas What: Case Study: Activision's Global Replication Strategy Speeds Games to Market In the games business, time to market is everything. That's why in many of its 32 global offices, including development studios, QA facilities, and DR and headquarters sites, Activision has deployed snapshot, replication and WDS technologies. Activision's compiled source code files are huge: 8 to 12 Megabytes. Game builds, 3D images, static images, and sound files all traverse the global WAN to bring a game to market. How is Activision slashing replication times, fully utilizing bandwidth and reducing transfer times of 12-Gigabyte game build files from five hours to 30 minutes?

As a result of participating in this session, attendees will be able to:

-- Evaluate how latency truly affects TCP performance: TCP optimization is key. Activision now achieves 45 Megabytes of throughput versus 5 - 8 Megabytes of throughput to Europe over its 45 Megabyte links -- Assess how WDS has dramatically impacted Activision's business by significantly improving time to market -- Analyze why manually tweaking the hosts to optimize TCP stacks does not improve WAN performance

Attendees can learn more about WDS solutions and the Riverbed vision at Storage Networking World. Riverbed recently announced its vision for the optimization of data that would enable organizations to streamline the manipulation, movement and storage of information. With Riverbed as the core enabling optimization technology, data inefficiencies and bottlenecks would be removed throughout the enterprise. Technology infrastructure and applications would finally support the demands of the more distributed and collaborative 21st century workplace. Riverbed intends to build on its record of execution with WAN optimization and extend its core technology to data center storage and server infrastructure with its new product, the Atlas appliance, expected to be launched in the first half of 2009.
