The fourth-generation Odyssey has a fuel economy of 13.2km per liter, up from the 12.2km per liter of its predecessor and making it the best among 2. 4-liter minivans.
While its engine displacement is the same as that of the predecessor model, the minivan is more powerful with 173 horsepower, up 8 per cent. This is to tap demand among performance-focused drivers, even though families are the main buyers of minivans.
The standard version, the Odyssey M, will carry a price tag of 2.59 million yen (US$25,610). Honda aims to sell 4,000 units of its mainstay minivan a month.
The automaker has also improved the field of view for drivers and front passengers through narrowing the front pillars by roughly 30 per cent. And a quartet of cameras can be installed as a factory option, enabling drivers to check the area around the minivan in parking garages and at intersections with poor visibility.
