A civilian fire captain at a North Carolina Air Force base was arrested Sunday by detectives who say he traveled to Lake County to have sex with who he believed were a mother and her 7-year-old daughter. Mark Farwell, 38, of Goldsboro, N.C., had been chatting online for 10 months with detectives posing as the woman in a Yahoo chat room. Lake County sheriff's Detective Chris Loyko, who heads up the sheriff's cybercrime unit, said Farwell arranged to meet the woman and her daughter in Minneola while in the area to visit his parents, who reside in Ocala. Detectives were concerned because Farwell had claimed in online chats with undercover officers that he engaged in sex acts with other children. Upon his arrest, however, Farwell insisted he has never victimized a child and that his chat was "only fantasy." Detectives said he also admitted that he engaged in sexually explicit Internet chats with other children. A spokeswoman for the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, N.C., said Monday that Farwell was a civilian employee.
