Eric Evans, 15, of Upper St. Clair was awaiting arraignment Tuesday in the Allegheny County Jail. He is charged as an adult with conspiring to help Christopher Janney, 16, of South Fayette place several chlorine compression bombs near Janney's relatives' heads as they slept, said South Fayette police Chief Louis Volle.
The county Bomb Squad removed six clear bottles from Janney's home on Dutch Hill Road after Bonnie Janney, Christopher's mother, called police to report her son missing.
Janney is charged as an adult with six counts of attempted homicide and one count each of conspiracy and reckless endangerment. Police also have charged Thomas Moore, 18, of South Park with conspiracy, hindering apprehension and interfering with a minor.
A family computer used to access Janney's MySpace page revealed that he sent and received e-mail messages about the bombs, a complaint states. MySpace officials provided police with copies of the e-mails, in which Janney discussed the plot and his plans to "lay low" before taking a Greyhound bus "down south," the complaint states.
Janney's cell phone showed that he and Moore exchanged text messages regarding the bombs, police said. "I went through with my plan," read one message from Janney to Moore, according to the complaint.
Janney's attorney, Kevin Abramovitz, filed a motion yesterday asking Common Pleas Judge Anthony M. Mariani to send the case to juvenile court. A hearing date has not been set for that argument.
