"I've met a disturbing number of people who have decided how to vote by flipping a coin," she said Monday in Wilson.
Others have chosen all the women or all the men in the non-partisan, judicial races, she said.
She hopes that all voters will take time to learn about the candidates and to tab her for the N.C. Supreme Court. She has been endorsed by several groups and many individuals, including former Gov. Jim Hunt and U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield, both of Wilson.
"I am the better candidate," she said.
Reynolds, a law professor at Wake Forest University for the past 27 years, is running against Justice Bob Edmunds. It is the only contest for the Supreme Court. The winner will get an eight-year term.
Reynolds stopped by the Daily Times office while she was in Wilson visiting her brother, Claude Reynolds, a retired BB&T executive, and his wife, also named Suzanne, a retired school teacher. Her niece, Mary Lee Dixon, is a Wilson dentist.
She said she is enjoying the campaign, her first, even though she has accepted public financing and therefore does not have much money for advertising.
"People ask me if I believe judges should be elected and I'm not sure they should be. But I am glad that I have gone through the experience of a campaign and gone through the endorsement process," she said.
She has been endorsed by numerous groups, including the N.C. Association of Educators, National Organization for Women, the N.C. Association of Women Attorneys, N.C. Advocates for Justice and the State Employees Association, and former N.C. Supreme Court justices Butterfield and Harry C. Martin.
A Lexington native, she received her bachelor's degree from Meredith College, a master's degree in English and journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her law degree from Wake Forest University. She practiced civil litigation with a Greensboro law firm before joining the WFU faculty 26 years ago.
She was recognized by the NC Association of Women Attorneys in 1996 with the Gwyneth B. Davis award for Public Service and by Governor Hunt in 1998 with a Distinguished Woman of the Year award.
