The major Japanese automaker, together with FAW Group Corp., will invest a total of 60 billion yen in the fifty-fifty joint venture, which will have an annual production capacity of 100,000 units.
The new plant, located near Toyota's existing plant in Changchun that makes the Prius gasoline-electric hybrid car, is scheduled to commence operations in 2010.
Toyota currently has four plants in China -- located in Changchun, northeast of the Chinese capital, Tianjin, southeast of Beijing, Chengdu, southwest of Beijing, and Guangzhou, south of Beijing -- with a combined annual production capacity of 643,000 units.
