China Insurance International Holdings Leads Friday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Rises 2%

OLDWICK, N.J., Nov 03, 2008 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- OLMUY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Friday, Oct. 31, at 688.02 (+2.00%). Of the 15 A.M. Best stock indexes, 14 rose and one declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were China Insurance International Holdings (+60.36%) and Universal American (+24.12%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were Old Mutual plc (-16.50%) and Protective Life Corp. (-16.00%).

The U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the Asia/Pacific Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The U.S. Insurance Index (AMBUS) closed at 675.41 (+3.57%). Leading the AMBUS were Universal American (+24.12%) and AIG (+17.18%). Trailing the AMBUS were Protective Life Corp. (-16.00%) and National Interstate Corp. (-11.57%).

The European Insurance Index (AMBEUR) closed at 649.77 (+0.53%)%. Leading the AMBEUR were Zurich Financial Services AG (+8.37%) and Munich Re (+7.65%). Trailing the AMBEUR were Old Mutual plc (-16.50%) and Allianz (-6.42%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1034.65 (-3.99%). Leading the AMBAP were China Insurance International Holdings (+60.36%) and Korean Reinsurance Co. (+9.98%). Trailing the AMBAP were Fuji Fire & Marine Insurance (-9.39%) and Nipponkoa Insurance (-7.36%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 883.36 (+3.47%). Leading the AMBGR were China Insurance International Holdings (+60.36%) and Korean Reinsurance Co. (+9.98%). Trailing the AMBGR were XL Capital (-4.34%) and Axa S.A. (-2.30%).

The Global Broker Index (AMBGB) closed at 1015.28 (+5.77%). Leading the AMBGB were Aon (+11.02%) and Marsh & McLennan Cos. (+5.92%). Trailing the AMBGB were eHealth Inc. (-2.53%) and Benfield Group (-0.22%).

The Global Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBGML) closed at 472.78 (+1.22%). Leading the AMBGML were AIG (+17.18%) and Unitrin (+9.83%). Trailing the AMBGML were Allianz (-6.42%) and Axa S.A. (-2.30%).

The Global Nonlife Insurance Index (AMBGNL) closed at 1020.94 (+1.99%). Leading the AMBGNL were CNA Surety (+14.94%) and PMA Capital Corp. (+13.24%). Trailing the AMBGNL were National Interstate Corp. (-11.57%) and Fuji Fire & Marine Insurance (-9.39%).

The U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBUML) closed at 150.39 (+6.90%). Leading the AMBUML were American International Group (+17.18%) and Unitrin (+9.83%). Trailing the AMBUML were Atlantic American Corp. (0.00%) and Assurant (+0.51%).

The U.S. Life Insurance Index (AMBUL) closed at 632.97 (+1.45%). Leading the AMBUL were Genworth Financial (+15.51%) and Ameriprise Financial (+13.68%). Trailing the AMBUL were Protective Life Corp. (-16.00%) and Phoenix Cos. (-10.14%).

The U.S. Life and Health/HMO Insurance Index (AMBULH) closed at 661.77 (+2.37%). Leading the AMBULH were Universal American (+24.12%) and Genworth Financial (+15.51%). Trailing the AMBULH were Protective Life Corp. (-16.00%) and Phoenix Cos. (-10.14%).

The U.S. Health and HMO Index (AMBUH) closed at 691.31 (+3.31%). Leading the AMBUH were Universal American (+24.12%) and Unum Group (+7.44%). Trailing the AMBUH were Aetna (-4.12%) and Coventry Health Care (-0.90%).

The U.S. Insurance Brokers Index (AMBUB) closed at 999.93 (+6.10%). Leading the AMBUB were Aon (+11.02%) and Marsh & McLennan Cos. (+5.92%). Trailing the AMBUB were eHealth Inc. (-2.53%) and Willis Group Holdings (-0.19%).
