Two workers were placing an aluminum ladder against a home on the northwestern corner of the intersection of Bellview Avenue and Fulton Street at approximately 11 a.m. when the accident occurred, according to Sgt. J.D. Murphy of the Fairmont Police Department.
"When they were setting up, the ladder struck something electrically charged," Murphy said.
One of the victims was dead when Murphy arrived on the scene. The other was transported to Fairmont General Hospital. Murphy would not release the names of the victims pending notification of their next of kin, he said.
The workers were working to put a roof on the home when the accident occurred, Murphy said. He noted that Jones Construction was the firm that was working on the house. However, Murphy could not positively confirm that it was a Jones Construction employee who was killed.
The accident is still under investigation, Murphy said. Engineers with Allegheny Energy along with officers with the Fairmont Police Department were on scene attempting to discover how the accident occurred.
The Marion County Rescue Squad and the Fairmont Fire Department also responded to the scene, as did the Fairmont code enforcement officer, Murphy said.
