Presently, insurers including China Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (SHSE: 601628 and SEHK: 2628), the biggest life insurer in the country, have suspended the sale of investment-linked insurance products in Beijing and Shanghai. The Beijing-based company launched its first investment-linked insurance product in April 2008, but so far, it hasn't sold any such product in Shanghai, except two sold to insiders of the company. Actually, China Life is believed to have just had a try on such business but have not chosen a proper timing, as local stock market is rather gloomy this year.
In addition, Taikang Life Insurance Co., Ltd. suspended the sale of its investment-linked insurance products that were sold via banks. It will be a trend for insurers to make adjustments on their business structures despite that the sale suspension has not spread to other Chinese cities.
