The survey ranked the Web sites of 3,920 listed firms based on their scores in three areas: "easy to understand," "easy to use," and "abundance of information." Site content was scored on 117 factors, with the rankings determined using the average scores in each area. The survey was conducted from mid-June through late September.
Toshiba received a score of 86.2 for "abundance of information," the highest in that category. It placed second overall last year.
Runner-up NTT DoCoMo Inc. (TSE:9437) was tops in the "ease of use" category with a score of 90.2. Capcom Co. (TSE:9697) led the "easy to understand" category , ranking fourth overall.
Last year's overall winner, Tokyo Gas Co. (TSE:9531), slipped to third place this year.
By industry, electrical equipment and telecommunications firms dominated the upper echelons of the rankings. Companies with large market capitalizations tended to perform better, reflecting their active disclosures to investors, Nikko Investor Relations noted.
