The Immunization Outreach Clinic for Children and Adults will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the McDonald's at 1274 Horizon Blvd. It will provide immunizations to children up to 18 and free immunizations for adults, except for flu and pneumonia shots.
"This is an underinsured area and we have a lot of uninsured people," said Roxann Parks, program manager for the immunization program for the El Paso Department of Health. "We want to promote vaccines in this area."
According to the city, each year more than 200,000 people are hospitalized by flu complications, 20,000 of whom are children younger than 5.
Participants are asked to bring their child's immunization record and birth certificate.
Children must be accompanied by parent or guardian, who must have a picture ID.
Flu vaccines for adults are available for $25. Pneumonia vaccines are $40. Medicaid, Medicare or cash will be accepted. The city's health department will provide the shots at the McDonald's the second Wednesday of each month from 3 to 6 p.m.
