Fuji Fire & Marine Insurance Leads Monday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Declines 1.42%

OLDWICK, N.J., Nov 11, 2008 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- LGGNY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Monday, Nov.10, at 698.97 (-1.42%). Of the 15 A.M. Best stock indexes, two rose and 13 declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were Fuji Fire & Marine Insurance (+15.05%) and Nipponkoa Insurance (+12.38%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were Legal & General Group (-52.65%) and Phoenix Cos. (-16.51%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the Global Life Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The European Insurance Index (AMBEUR) closed at 702.50 (-1.45%)%. Leading the AMBEUR were Catlin Group (+5.52%) and Munich Re (+5.37%). Trailing the AMBEUR were Legal & General Group (-52.65%) and Euler Hermes (-3.16%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1196.63 (+6.77%). Leading the AMBAP were Fuji Fire & Marine Insurance (+15.05%) and Nipponkoa Insurance (+12.38%). Trailing the AMBAP were Korean Reinsurance Co. (-1.11%) and QBE Insurance Group Ltd. (-0.11%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 881.44 (-0.48%). Leading the AMBGR were China Insurance International Holdings (+8.62%) and Catlin Group (+5.52%). Trailing the AMBGR were Everest Re Group (-5.61%) and W.R. Berkley Corp. (-4.40%).

The Global Broker Index (AMBGB) closed at 922.19 (-2.52%). Leading the AMBGB were Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc (+0.53%) and Benfield Group (0.00%). Trailing the AMBGB were Willis Group Holdings (-4.57%) and eHealth Inc. (-4.54%).

The Global Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBGML) closed at 503.64 (+0.99%). Leading the AMBGML were American International Group (+8.06%) and Axa S.A. (+2.51%). Trailing the AMBGML were Delphi Financial Group (-5.99%) and Horace Mann Educators (-5.48%).

The Global Nonlife Insurance Index (AMBGNL) closed at 1006.84 (-0.32%). Leading the AMBGNL were Fuji Fire & Marine Insurance (+15.05%) and Nipponkoa Insurance (+12.38%). Trailing the AMBGNL were National Security Group (-12.50%) and Fidelity National Financial (-10.06%).

The U.S. Life Insurance Index (AMBUL) closed at 663.44 (-2.80%). Leading the AMBUL were Genworth Financial (+1.87%) and American Equity Inv. Life (+1.87%). Trailing the AMBUL were Phoenix Cos. (-16.51%) and Conseco (-16.20%).

The U.S. Life and Health/HMO Insurance Index (AMBULH) closed at 669.59 (-2.54%). Leading the AMBULH were Genworth Financial (+1.87%) and American Equity Inv. Life (+1.87%). Trailing the AMBULH were Phoenix Cos. (-16.51%) and Conseco (-16.20%).

The U.S. Health and HMO Index (AMBUH) closed at 674.52 (-2.26%). Leading the AMBUH were Aetna (+0.94%) and Universal American (+0.50%). Trailing the AMBUH were Unum Group (-5.83%) and Health Net (-5.45%).

The U.S. Insurance Brokers Index (AMBUB) closed at 901.91 (-2.67%). Leading the AMBUB were Maiden Holdings Ltd. (-0.26%) and Aon (-1.19%). Trailing the AMBUB were Willis Group Holdings (-4.57%) and eHealth Inc. (-4.54%).
