Gainsco Leads Tuesday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Declines 4.41%

OLDWICK, N.J., Nov 12, 2008 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- GNW | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 668.16 (-4.41%). All 15 A.M. Best stock indexes declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were Gainsco (+16.35%) and CRM Holdings (+11.40%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were Genworth Financial (-54.41%) and Hartford Financial Services Group (-22.75%).

The U.S. Insurance Brokers Index led the sector indexes, with the U.S. Life Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The European Insurance Index (AMBEUR) closed at 652.35 (-7.14%)%. Leading the AMBEUR were Brit Insurance Holdings (+3.06%) and Omega Insurance Holdings (+1.75%). Trailing the AMBEUR were Axa S.A. (-9.41%) and Aegon N.V. (-9.26%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1157.00 (-3.31%). Leading the AMBAP were Tower Ltd. (+1.29%) and Korean Reinsurance Co. (+1.12%). Trailing the AMBAP were Dongbu Insurance Co. (-11.41%) and Singapore Reinsurance Corp. (-8.11%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 847.20 (-3.88%). Leading the AMBGR were Arch Capital Group (+3.87%) and TransAtlantic Holdings (+3.56%). Trailing the AMBGR were Axa S.A. (-9.41%) and Aegon N.V. (-9.26%).

The Global Broker Index (AMBGB) closed at 912.06 (-1.10%). Leading the AMBGB were Aon (+0.85%) and Brown & Brown (+0.71%). Trailing the AMBGB were Maiden Holdings Ltd. (-15.25%) and Marsh & McLennan Cos. (-2.62%).

The Global Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBGML) closed at 468.84 (-6.91%). Leading the AMBGML were Allstate (+0.31%) and American National Insurance (+0.16%). Trailing the AMBGML were Hartford Financial Services Group (-22.75%) and Axa S.A. (-9.41%).

The Global Nonlife Insurance Index (AMBGNL) closed at 987.96 (-1.88%). Leading the AMBGNL were Gainsco (+16.35%) and CRM Holdings (+11.40%). Trailing the AMBGNL were Affirmative Insurance Holdings Inc. (-17.24%) and Dongbu Insurance Co. (-11.41%).

The Global Life Insurance Index (AMBGL) closed at 563.56 (-6.46%). Leading the AMBGL were Conseco (+5.04%) and Independence Holding Co. (+2.33%). Trailing the AMBGL were Genworth Financial (-54.41%) and Lincoln National (-15.27%).

The U.S. Property/Casualty Index (AMBUPC) closed at 983.84 (-1.23%). Leading the AMBUPC were Gainsco (+16.35%) and CRM Holdings (+11.40%). Trailing the AMBUPC were Affirmative Insurance Holdings Inc. (-17.24%) and National Interstate Corp. (-7.65%).

The U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBUML) closed at 150.93 (-3.26%). Leading the AMBUML were Allstate (+0.31%) and American National Insurance (+0.16%). Trailing the AMBUML were Hartford Financial Services Group (-22.75%) and Assurant (-1.81%).

The U.S. Life Insurance Index (AMBUL) closed at 613.39 (-7.55%). Leading the AMBUL were Conseco (+5.04%) and Independence Holding Co. (+2.33%). Trailing the AMBUL were Genworth Financial (-54.41%) and Lincoln National (-15.27%).

The U.S. Life and Health/HMO Insurance Index (AMBULH) closed at 627.79 (-6.24%). Leading the AMBULH were Conseco (+5.04%) and Independence Holding Co. (+2.33%). Trailing the AMBULH were Genworth Financial (-54.41%) and Lincoln National (-15.27%).

The U.S. Health and HMO Index (AMBUH) closed at 641.81 (-4.85%). Leading the AMBUH were Unum Group (-2.59%) and Humana (-2.73%). Trailing the AMBUH were Cigna (-5.98%) and UnitedHealth Group (-5.97%).

The U.S. Insurance Brokers Index (AMBUB) closed at 892.34 (-1.06%). Leading the AMBUB were Aon (+0.85%) and Brown & Brown (+0.71%). Trailing the AMBUB were Maiden Holdings Ltd. (-15.25%) and Marsh & McLennan Cos. (-2.62%).
