Local marketing business growing

That's where GSI Commerce comes in.

The organization assists large retailers in growing their e-commerce-based businesses.

Jesse Korella, vice president of customer care, said his company offers a variety of techniques aimed at helping their clients grow.

"We focus on business partners (clients) that have major brick-and-mortar retail operations and well-established brands. These businesses are great with this model of retailing. We provide expertise in building their e-commerce business," Korella said. "In addition, we provide cutting-edge marketing services to these retailers including Web design, interactive online marketing and targeted e-mail advertising."

The services provided cover a broad spectrum of technologies, Korella said.

Through its call-center services, GSI helps companies with order management, customer service systems, distribution, warehousing and customer care.

One of these centers is in Brunswick.

"Our Brunswick call-center site supports only the customer care solutions for our partners. GSI has three other call centers across the U.S.," Korella said. "While this call center has been operating in Brunswick since 1997, it only recently became a part of GSI Commerce, following an acquisition that occurred in 2007."

The center is currently experiencing an upswing. The building at 3003 Scarlett St., Suite 25, Brunswick, has undergone major renovations. The exterior has had a face lift and the interior has been spruced up, too.

"We have also improved the interior, including all new carpeting, a new phone system, and several new computers with 17-inch monitors for our agents," Korella said.

"We have added a new pool table and ping pong table to our break room, along with a 50-inch flat-screen HDTV. Our outside break area has also been enclosed and covered, providing a great open-air retreat for our employees."

The call center is seeing other areas of growth as well, namely in number of employees. The center is one of the few places that is hiring.

"Our call center will be hiring more than 250 seasonal agents for November and December. The Brunswick site has also increased our starting hourly rate for agents to $9.25 per hour," Korella said. "While the majority of employees will be hired for only a seasonal basis, we will be offering many permanent opportunities with GSI Commerce for our seasonal staff in early January."

Job Fair:

--GSI Commerce will host an Open House and Job Fair 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. There will be tours of the call center and scheduling applicants for interviews to fill seasonal customer service representative positions.
