EPSO | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- GE Security, a business of GE Enterprise Solutions, announced it has manufactured its 25-millionth Supra lockbox for the real estate industry since the first lockbox was produced more than 40 years ago.

The Supra brand has accounted for some 18 million mechanical and seven million electronic lockboxes. If laid end-to-end, these 25 million devices would span the North American continent. Today, real estate agents and Realtor associations in all 50 U.S. states as well as in Canada use GE Security Supra lockbox systems to help increase their efficiency and productivity while obtaining real-time information about showing activity, which can provide a competitive advantage.

"More important than the total number of lockboxes built, this 25-million milestone reflects our long-standing commitment to the real estate industry, the agents who rely on our products, and the real estate associations who serve them," said Ron Virden, general manager, GE Security Supra.

Supra lockboxes were invented in 1955 specifically to improve efficiencies in the real estate industry and sell homes faster by making them more conveniently available to real estate agents who wanted to show properties. Supra was the first electronic lockbox to be awarded a patent, and the first to reach the one- and two-million unit milestones. Over the years, GE Security has obtained more than 70 lockbox-related patents for its technologies and features.

Supra's lockbox key was the first to require a PIN-based security code to access lockboxes, the first to require a periodic update code to remain active and the first system to provide a history of showing information to real estate agents.

In the last 53 years, the company has produced seven different versions, including the iBox electronic lockbox that was introduced in 2002. The iBox is part of the Supra Wireless Information Network, which uses cellular technology in the Supra ActiveKEY or in smartphones to provide real-time notification of showing activity.

GE Security offers broad product portfolios, including access control, explosives and narcotics detection, fire detection, intrusion, key management and video surveillance.
