The product is underwritten by AIG's Singapore subsidiary, American Home Assurance Co., to offer protection for sickness, medical expense, flight delay and cancellation, and loss of baggage and personal effects.
The premium for the new product starts from $2.50 (1.97 euro) for a domestic single trip flight and $9 for international return trips.
AIG first entered Vietnam in the 1920s. In 2005, AIG Vietnam General Insurance was granted a full license as a wholly-owned subsidiary of AIG to operate nonlife business across the nation with offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Nonlife insurance premiums in Vietnam jumped 41% to 5.5 trillion dong (255.8 million euros) in the first half of this year, according to Vietnam's Ministry of Finance. The Vietnam Insurance Association said the nonlife insurance sector is expected to achieve 30% growth in 2008's full year. Currently, nine foreign insurance companies are operating in the country.
