The blog, called "The Caucus," contained a link Tuesday that invited readers to submit their top picks to lead five cabinet-level agencies: State Department, Department of Homeland Security, Defense, Treasury and Attorney General.
Richardson was the readers' top pick for secretary of state, followed by Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and John Kerry. Among others making the list for the top job at the State Department were Richard Holbrooke, Sen. Chuck Hagel -- a Republican -- and former Vice President Al Gore.
The online poll did not disclose how many votes were cast.
Richardson, a former United Nations ambassador and occasional global diplomatic troubleshooter, is frequently mentioned in the press as a serious contender for secretary of state, and those close to him have said he would accept the job.
But neither he nor the Obama camp have confirmed that he is, in fact, under consideration.
