Genworth Financial Leads Thursday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Rises 2.46%

OLDWICK, N.J., Nov 14, 2008 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- GNW | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Thursday, Nov. 13, at 654.39 (+2.46%). Of the 15 A.M. Best stock indexes, 13 rose and two declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were Genworth Financial (+40.59%) and First Acceptance Corp. (+27.31%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were Dongbu Insurance Co. (-11.76%) and LIG Insurance Co. (-8.75%).

The U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the Asia/Pacific Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The U.S. Insurance Index (AMBUS) closed at 634.16 (+5.81%). Leading the AMBUS were Genworth Financial (+40.59%) and First Acceptance Corp. (+27.31%). Trailing the AMBUS were CRM Holdings (-6.67%) and Prudential Financial Inc. (-5.28%).

The European Insurance Index (AMBEUR) closed at 615.14 (-1.30%)%. Leading the AMBEUR were Old Mutual plc (+9.29%) and Hannover Rueckversicherungs AG (+7.56%). Trailing the AMBEUR were Aviva (-5.80%) and Legal & General Group (-5.10%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1086.45 (-6.31%). Leading the AMBAP were Korean Reinsurance Co. (+3.97%) and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Co. Ltd. (+3.08%). Trailing the AMBAP were Dongbu Insurance Co. (-11.76%) and LIG Insurance Co. (-8.75%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 827.26 (+0.81%). Leading the AMBGR were W.R. Berkley Corp. (+14.48%) and White Mountains Insurance Group (+12.99%). Trailing the AMBGR were China Insurance International Holdings (-6.03%) and QBE Insurance Group Ltd. (-5.09%).

The Global Broker Index (AMBGB) closed at 936.19 (+5.56%). Leading the AMBGB were Marsh & McLennan Cos. (+9.20%) and AmTrust Financial Services Inc. (+8.70%). Trailing the AMBGB were Maiden Holdings Ltd. (-4.39%) and Benfield Group (-0.14%).

The Global Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBGML) closed at 455.29 (+1.40%). Leading the AMBGML were First Acceptance Corp. (+27.31%) and Allstate (+21.69%). Trailing the AMBGML were Allianz (-3.03%) and Axa S.A. (-1.66%).

The Global Nonlife Insurance Index (AMBGNL) closed at 986.89 (+2.29%). Leading the AMBGNL were Progressive Corp. (+23.97%) and National Security Group (+17.10%). Trailing the AMBGNL were Dongbu Insurance Co. (-11.76%) and LIG Insurance Co. (-8.75%).

The Global Life Insurance Index (AMBGL) closed at 536.28 (+3.10%). Leading the AMBGL were Genworth Financial (+40.59%) and Conseco (+24.59%). Trailing the AMBGL were China Insurance International Holdings (-6.03%) and Aviva (-5.80%).

The U.S. Property/Casualty Index (AMBUPC) closed at 1002.64 (+5.12%). Leading the AMBUPC were First Acceptance Corp. (+27.31%) and Progressive Corp. (+23.97%). Trailing the AMBUPC were CRM Holdings (-6.67%) and OneBeacon Insurance Group Ltd. (-3.29%).

The U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBUML) closed at 158.33 (+13.57%). Leading the AMBUML were Allstate (+21.69%) and Horace Mann Educators (+18.61%). Trailing the AMBUML were Atlantic American Corp. (+1.43%) and AIG (+1.48%).

The U.S. Life Insurance Index (AMBUL) closed at 573.32 (+3.82%). Leading the AMBUL were Genworth Financial (+40.59%) and Conseco (+24.59%). Trailing the AMBUL were Prudential Financial Inc. (-5.28%) and FBL Financial Group (+1.20%).

The U.S. Life and Health/HMO Insurance Index (AMBULH) closed at 608.61 (+5.53%). Leading the AMBULH were Genworth Financial (+40.59%) and Conseco (+24.59%). Trailing the AMBULH were Prudential Financial Inc. (-5.28%) and Humana (-3.79%).

The U.S. Health and HMO Index (AMBUH) closed at 645.31 (+7.24%). Leading the AMBUH were Unum Group (+14.75%) and UnitedHealth Group (+10.44%). Trailing the AMBUH were Humana (-3.79%) and Health Net (+0.82%).

The U.S. Insurance Brokers Index (AMBUB) closed at 918.60 (+5.90%). Leading the AMBUB were Marsh & McLennan Cos. (+9.20%) and AmTrust Financial Services Inc. (+8.70%). Trailing the AMBUB were Maiden Holdings Ltd. (-4.39%) and Aon (+1.83%).
