Recognized as the group's Freedom Fund honorees were MaryAnn Black, the Rev. Ernie Mills and Gail Mills.
Black is associate vice president for community relations for the Duke University Health System and is a former chairwoman of the Durham County Board of Commissioners.
The Millses are founders of the Durham Rescue Mission.
The three were recognized at the NAACP chapter's 34th annual Freedom Fund banquet at the Durham Civic Center at the Marriott.
Mayor Pro Tem Cora Cole-McFadden, a co-chairperson of the dinner, noted they "have done so much to promote goodwill in this community."
