SALINAS, Nov 16, 2008 (San Mateo County Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- TTC | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Justine Fedronic and Jessie Petersen went 1-2 in the girls race, and Ethan Scardina won the boys race as the Carlmont cross country team swept the Division I team titles for the fourth consecutive year at the Central Coast Section finals at Toro Park in Salinas.

Fedronic, who is considering scholarship offers from Stanford, Duke, Washington and Georgetown, won her third consecutive individual title with a time of 18 minutes, 15 seconds on the 3-mile course.

"I really wanted to finish off the year with a win," Fedronic said. "And to run a PR (personal best) at Toro with the team winning made it a real good day."

Petersen ran 18:43 to take second as Carlmont won the team title with 44 points. Gilroy was second with 50. Scardina, a sophomore, won the boys race in 16:08 as Carlmont edged Bellarmine 48-52.

Half Moon Bay's Sammy Hamilton won the girls Division IV race for the second time in three years in 19:37.

"It was nice running at the front of the pack," Hamilton said. "I always have a better race when I do."

HMB's Bryce Williamson took fifth in the Division IV boys race in 16:55, qualifying for the state meet as an individual. Two Burlingame boys qualified for state in Division III. Max Keleher took eighth in 16:42 while Rogan Meza came in 11th in 16:45.

"I just tried to stay with the front pack and pick off as many people as I could," Keleher said.

Two runners from Woodside also qualified

for state. Daniel Filipcik placed fifth in the Division II boys race in 16:14, and Lori Mendelsohn took 12th in the girls race in 19:35. Westmoor's Steven Mandac also qualified in Division II, placing 12th in 16:41.

Four of the seven sub-16:00 times were in the boys Division II race.

"One of these days Daniel is going to get those guys," Woodside coach Nick Carr said. "It might not be this year in high school. But he's a guy who gets better and better. Five years from now you'll say, where did he come from?"

Crystal Springs Uplands, in its first year in CCS, won the Division V boys title with 51 points. Bryve Cronkite-Radcliff led the Gryphons with a fourth-place finish in 17:55. Eastside Prep's Darryl Sepulveda and Jakari Perry and Woodside Priory's Arnaud Kpachavi qualified individually.

Woodside Priory took second and Crystal Springs third in Division V girls, with both advancing.
