The acquisition has been approved by the Brazilian anti-trust authorities, the company added.
Nheel Quimica is the second largest producer of iron salts and largest producer of aluminium salts for water treatment in Brazil. In 2007, Nheel Quimica's revenue was approximately EUR26m.
Kemira said that the acquisition will give the company the opportunity to offer a full range of coagulants to its customers in Brazil.
Kemira Oyj, headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, is a chemicals group that operates in 40 countries. In 2007 Kemira recorded revenue of EUR2.8bn and had 10,000 employees.
One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 1.17 euros (EUR).
