One thing is still for sure: Buckcherry is still all about rock n' roll.
The band, made up of vocalist Josh Todd, guitarists Keith Nelson and Stevie D., bass player Jimmy Ashhurst and drummer Xavier Muriel, is seeing nothing but success now. Buckcherry just released "Black Butterfly," an album that followed the band's best-selling release to date, "15." The group's tour is also doing well.
"It's going great," Todd said in an interview with the Daily Journal. "We've got Avenged Sevenfold, Shinedown and Saving Abel, and the shows have had a good turnout. It's just a good mix of music."
Buckcherry also mixes its music up for concert-goers.
"We have four records and we pretty much take the best of all four records and kind of squish them together," he said. "It makes it interesting for everyone, including the band."
Raising the bar
Buckcherry hit the scene running in 1999 with its self-titled debut and a string of hits like "For the Movies," "Check Your Head" and "Lit Up."
Nothing was heard from Buckcherry from about 2002 to 2006, while the group disbanded and then reformed with new members. In 2006, Buckcherry released "15," which won the guys even more hit singles and a legion of new fans. Looking back on it all, Todd is excited about Buckcherry's success.
"I feel like over the years and through the records that we've really progressed and matured as songwriters," Todd said. "We love rock n' roll and we love this band. We set out to make a catalog of music and to really make our mark. A lot of bands don't make it past their second record. ... We're continuing to raise the bar."
Todd said Buckcherry will think about a follow-up to "Black Butterfly" after the group is done touring.
"We're going to be touring a while on it," he said. "We don't like looking too far ahead -- we just try to enjoy the moment. When the time comes for writing, we'll work, and we'll make a good record. I'm not worried about it."
Right now, the band is focused on delivering an explosive live show every night.
"You'll get your money's worth -- we deliver," Todd said. "We're very concerned about giving you your money's worth."
