With the flip of a switch, the driver can switch to Econ mode to ease the burden on the engine. In this mode, a function extends the time of the "idling stop," which halts the engine when the vehicle stops. This mode incorporates a function that turns down the air conditioning, and also boosts the efficiency of "regeneration," a process in which driving energy is recovered as electricity when the vehicle decelerates.
To promote fuel-efficient driving, the Insight's speedometer will visually indicate fuel conservation. When fuel efficiency is high, the speedometer's background will flash green. It will change to blue during times of high fuel consumption, such as when the vehicle rapidly accelerates or decelerates.
Fuel economy during driving will be scored in 10 levels. In models equipped with Honda's car navigation system, drivers will be able to view their performance on the car navigation screen and obtain advice on improving their fuel economy.
