Marco Nelson was ready to have a blockbuster 2008 season after rushing for 1,978 yards and 24 touchdowns last year for Class 4A runner-up Glenpool.
In early October, it appeared that this could be a lost season for the junior tailback. A hip pointer caused Nelson to miss three games and limited him to 133 rushing yards through the first six weeks.
Nelson then broke loose with 174 yards against McLoud in Week 7 and has been hard to stop ever since.
"He had a great game against Star Spencer and he's really coming on strong," Glenpool coach Steve Edwards said.
In Week 10, Nelson had 26 carries for 233 yards and scored five TDs for the Warriors (11-0) in a showdown for the 4A-2 district title against Star Spencer. Last week, he had 127 yards and two TDs in a playoff opener over Woodward. For the season, Nelson has 887 rushing yards and 13 TDs.
On Saturday night, Nelson will be matched against Wagoner standout linebacker-running back Gus Jones in a quarterfinal game at Glenpool.

Gabe Lynn --Jenks
Defensive brilliance
Gabe Lynn did not mince his words.
"Excellence is expected at Jenks," the Trojans standout senior cornerback said.
As the Class 6A No. 2 Trojans continue their pursuit of a third consecutive state championship, Lynn's impact will continue to get noticed.
The U.S. Army All-America Game selection has recorded 30 tackles and recovered a fumble this season. The statistics do not completely measure the impact he has on a weekly basis.
Due to his coverage abilities, opponents have rarely thrown the ball to Lynn's side of the field.
But the playoffs have been a time when Lynn elevates his performance.
Last season, he returned an interception for a touchdown in Jenks' quarterfinal win against Westmoore and had a key interception in the semifinal triumph against Midwest City.
It would not be surprising if Lynn's excellence is on display as the postseason continues.

Brian DeShane --Union
Big leadership figure
With a bevy of skill-position talent surrounding him, Brian DeShane easily could have gotten lost.
That would have been hard, though. Union's 6-foot-4, 280- pound senior offensive lineman is an imposing figure.
DeShane's value to the Redskins' potent offensive attack goes beyond his size. Union coach Kirk Fridrich points to the leadership DeShane has given the team, particularly to the offensive line that was a bit green to start the season.
"That's his biggest asset," Fridrich said. "He was the only experienced lineman we had back from last season and we struggled there early in the season. That unit really didn't click until midseason. There was a lot of perseverance."
The perseverance has translated into success. Union has averaged 55 points over the last seven games.

Alvin Bailey --Broken Arrow
Next step: Title
Alvin Bailey has heard about Broken Arrow's history.
"There is still all that talk that Broken Arrow can't win the big one," the Tigers' senior offensive lineman said.
Bailey and Broken Arrow did clear one big hurdle at the start of this season by ending its long losing streak against Union. Next up? The Tigers have advanced to the semifinals three times in 25 years and only made one state final.
Bailey committed to Arkansas last summer, but that is not the ultimate satisfaction for him. Bailey wants to create a new chapter of Broken Arrow football history. Friday night's game at Mustang offers that opportunity.
"I want to go out there, play hard and give it all I got," Bailey said. "If people see someone opening a big hole or whipping his opponent across the line, people think 'Wow, that offensive line is playing good.' That's what I want for us."

Danny Husband --Cascia Hall
Injury is frustrating
One game at a time is a perfect description of Danny Husband's senior season at Cascia Hall.
Husband has been dealing with neck spasms that have limited his participation this fall for the Class 3A top-ranked Commandos.
Cascia Hall coach Joe Medina said the defensive end is one of the best players he's had in his 10-year tenure and feels for Husband.
Husband has sat out a handful of games, including last week's playing opening win against Roland.
He will be ready to play Saturday's quarterfinal against Blanchard.
Husband refuses to think about the pain or any potential problems.
"It has been a little frustrating because I want to be out there playing," Husband said. "But people have stepped up and done great. A lot of people have made sacrifices to keep this team rolling. I want to keep it rolling this week, so we can get a chance to play next week."
