Jaime I. Ayala, ALI president, told reporters the company is interested in extending its relationship with the university, its partner in building the newly inaugurated 38.5-hectare UP-Ayala Land Techno Hub along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
Ruperto Alonzo, UP Institute for Small-Scale Industries director, said the university will soon bid out the right to build the second and the third phases, which are the biotechnology and education parks, respectively.
For the existing information technology park, ALI will build 10 buildings, 6 of which will be completed by yearend and the remaining 4 by next year. The company will have an aggregate gross leasable area of 70,000 square meters this year devoted to companies engaged in IT (information technology) and IT-enabled services.
Pointwest Technologies Corp. is the first software developer to locate its operations at the UP-Ayala Land Techno Hub. Other locators are IBM Business Solutions, SeaChange, as well as the back-office operations of Manulife and HSBC.
In the Tech Portal of the UP-Ayala Land Techno Hub are incubation facilities occupied by five- to ten-man enterprises that develop, among others, a remote-controlled underwater robot and an SMS payment gateway for healthcare needs of overseas Filipino workers and dependents.
These small enterprises include SPT BPO, Abby Consulting, RF Windows Asia, TradeChannel Philippines, Inc., Inconnection, Tech Factors Inc., Pobletech, JBSI, Haystack, Lotus Edge, Webcast Technologies and Actius.
Marivic Anonuevo, ALI senior vice president and AyalaLand Businesscapes head, said dormitory-type residences will also be built within the IT campus, which will cater to UP faculty, students and techno hub workers. The real estate firm earmarked P6 billion for the whole mixed-use development project.
Ayala said IT parks will now be part of the firm's priority projects as the company is moving into developing more business process outsourcing (BPO) office spaces and campuses.
