"We owned that trailer," local film commissioner Rick Davis said. "I'd say about half of that trailer was filmed here."
Filming, which infused $2 million into the local economy, according to the Kern County Film Commission, took place over eight days last spring. Various county locations were used, including country roads and private properties south of Bakersfield near Buena Vista Lake, Tejon Ranch and Pastoria Energy Facility in Lebec, according to a media release.
Preparation took months.
"There were a lot of hours standing out in the wind and the cold doing camera tests to find the right locations, but seeing that footage makes it all worth it," said assistant film commissioner Dave Hook, who was the primary liaison with the production.
The racy two-minute sequence, which debuted last weekend with the new James Bond feature, "Quantum of Solace," features a young Capt. James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock who seem to be constantly, violently, at odds with each other as youthful hormones make their tempers flare. The much-anticipated J.J. Abrams film has a May 2009 release date.
