Austin's Christmas in the City kicks off Friday with its annual holiday parade and lighting ceremony. A new event this year will be a scavenger hunt with a chance to win a Nintendo Wii.
The Austin Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the event downtown with a 6 p.m. start. A number of area performers will provide entertainment for the evening, and downtown businesses will feature open houses, specials and drawings.
The celebration will continue with Christmas in the Northwest, throughout the business area of 18th Avenue Northwest, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2. More than 20 businesses will feature activities and special offers. Events will include horse-drawn sleigh rides, jewelry crafting, a barnyard Christmas and photos with Santa.
Sterling Christmas will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at Sterling Shopping Center. Events will include free photos with Santa, refreshments from various businesses, a kids petting zoo, horse-drawn sleigh rides, entertainment, a wine and cheese tasting and Christmas crafting. A variety of businesses will host open houses and children's games.
