BRIEF: CSRA billboard campaign sparks interest

Nov 25, 2008 (Aiken Standard - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- LAMR | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- A new set of billboards has many asking what is going to be huge in February '09?

Shooting up all over the CSRA are advertisements for a seemingly new mystery business or organization that isn't giving much away about what or who they are.

In Augusta and Aiken, Lamar Advertising billboards sport a plain background with the words "This is going to be huge" and "Coming February '09."

"We've had several calls about them," said Lamar Sales Manager Kevin Rippy. "But we try not to give away who it is."

Rippy said these types of teaser ads do not appear often but are effective at catching folks and keeping them think about what the eventual product will be.

Locally, in recent years this type of ad has been used from churches and car dealers to drum up local buzz.

Rippy would not go into who the customer was that had commissioned the ads but said that this slogan was only the first in a series.

"This is the start of a campaign," he said.
