The new Alto Lapin is up to 25 per cent more fuel efficient thanks to an improved engine and lighter body. A version of the new model equipped with a continuously variable transmission can run 24.5km on a liter of gasoline, one of the best figures for a Suzuki vehicle.
Suzuki also increased the distance between the front and rear tires, boosting the length of the cabin by 17cm so that passengers can sit more comfortably. The price of the new Alto Lapin ranges from 1.04 million (US$10,912) to 1.55 million yen, and Suzuki aims to sell 4,000 units a month.
The last time that the Alto Lapin went through a full remodeling was almost seven years ago. Suzuki just launched a redesigned Wagon R, its most popular minicar, in September. With its new offerings, Suzuki aims to catch up to minivehicle market leader Daihatsu Motor Co. (TSE:7262).
