The crash occurred at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday on South 12th Avenue near West Wyoming Street, said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
The motorcyclist -- who was not wearing a helmet -- was going 86 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone on a 1996 Honda motorcycle when he crashed into the passenger side of a 2008 Nissan Altima that was backing out of the driveway of a business, Pacheco said.
The man, 20, was southbound on 12th in the median lane, Pacheco said.
He was taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said.
The crash caused police to shut down 12th in both directions for about three hours, he said. No citations were issued, and drugs and alcohol were not believed to be factors, he said.
