According to media reports, the company plans to build 100 W-CDMA base stations in each of these cities.
The rollout in the major Chinese cities is expected to be completed by the middle of 2009 and the rollout in medium-sized cities is expected by the end of the year.
The Beijing Times cited Chang Xiaobing, chairman and CEO of China Unicom, as saying that the company is waiting for the 3G license from the government to start network trials.
