The S80L will be produced in the Chongqing plant of the Chang'an Ford Mazda Automobile Corp. (CFMA) in Southwest China.
The annual capacity is designed to reach 20,000 units, adding the plant's total to 250,000 units, according to sources with Volvo.
This luxury sedan will use over 40 percent locally-produced parts to meet the localization requirement on JV auto plants set by the Chinese government, said sources with Chongqing municipality government.
The construction will take 26 months with total investment of 230 million U.S. dollars. The expanded Chongqing plant is expected to become the third largest production base of Volvo in the world in three years.
