According to radio reports, police and paramedics arrived at the mall shortly after the shooting, which occured at about 11:15 a.m.
The shooting happened near Macy's, according to sources.
Police sealed off both of the mall's North Kendall Drive entrances, and mall employees said the mall was on lock-down.
Police are currently piecing together what they believe was an armed robbery at the mall, given that several people were seen fleeing a store with a money bag.
Police also received reports that people were fighting inside stores, but it is unknown if both cases are related.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue will soon transport the victim to Baptist Hospital by helicopter.
