The contract covers the treatment, storage and final disposal of medium-level nuclear waste. The waste will be treated at Studsvik's facility in Erwin, Tennessee, after which it will be stored under a storage agreement with Waste Control Specialists (WCS) in Texas.
The financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
Studsvik, headquartered in Sweden, offers technical services to the international nuclear power industry. The company has 1,200 employees in eight countries and reported a net turnover of SEK1.3bn in 2007.
One British pound (GBP) is worth approximately 12.30 Swedish kronor (SEK).
