Genworth Financial Leads Monday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Rises 5.07%

OLDWICK, N.J., Dec 09, 2008 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- GNW | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Monday, Dec. 8, at 678.81 (+5.07%). Of the 15 A.M. Best stock indexes, 13 rose and two declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were Genworth Financial (+41.77%) and Prudential plc (+23.20%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were Atlantic American Corp. (-20.00%) and National Security Group (-8.73%).

The European Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the U.S. Insurance Brokers Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The European Insurance Index (AMBEUR) closed at 706.34 (+12.41%)%. Leading the AMBEUR were Prudential plc (+23.20%) and Aegon N.V. (+21.34%). Trailing the AMBEUR were Amlin plc (-1.00%) and Catlin Group (-0.34%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 937.56 (+6.94%). Leading the AMBAP were Dongbu Insurance Co. (+10.23%) and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group Holdings (+10.22%). Trailing the AMBAP were Singapore Reinsurance Corp. (0.00%) and Tower Ltd. (+0.68%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 871.94 (+5.43%). Leading the AMBGR were Aegon N.V. (+21.34%) and Axa S.A. (+19.27%). Trailing the AMBGR were ACE (-5.07%) and Endurance Specialty Holdings (-3.43%).

The Global Broker Index (AMBGB) closed at 948.05 (-0.41%). Leading the AMBGB were eHealth Inc. (+10.93%) and AmTrust Financial Services Inc. (+6.11%). Trailing the AMBGB were Willis Group Holdings (-2.87%) and Brown & Brown (-1.96%).

The Global Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBGML) closed at 522.17 (+9.84%). Leading the AMBGML were Axa S.A. (+19.27%) and Allianz (+12.62%). Trailing the AMBGML were Atlantic American Corp. (-20.00%) and AIG (-0.52%).

The Global Nonlife Insurance Index (AMBGNL) closed at 983.95 (+3.28%). Leading the AMBGNL were American Safety Insurance Holdings (+18.14%) and Unico American Corp. (+17.68%). Trailing the AMBGNL were National Security Group (-8.73%) and Ace (-5.07%).

The Global Life Insurance Index (AMBGL) closed at 547.74 (+4.78%). Leading the AMBGL were Genworth Financial (+41.77%) and Prudential plc (+23.20%). Trailing the AMBGL were Principal Financial Group (-7.08%) and Unum Group (-6.42%).

The U.S. Property/Casualty Index (AMBUPC) closed at 1028.53 (+2.00%). Leading the AMBUPC were American Safety Insurance Holdings (+18.14%) and Unico American Corp. (+17.68%). Trailing the AMBUPC were National Security Group (-8.73%) and Ace (-5.07%).

The U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBUML) closed at 158.72 (+1.19%). Leading the AMBUML were Delphi Financial Group (+10.53%) and Assurant (+5.68%). Trailing the AMBUML were Atlantic American Corp. (-20.00%) and AIG (-0.52%).

The U.S. Life Insurance Index (AMBUL) closed at 570.21 (+0.90%). Leading the AMBUL were Genworth Financial (+41.77%) and National Western Life Insurance (+16.54%). Trailing the AMBUL were Principal Financial Group (-7.08%) and Lincoln National (-5.76%).

The U.S. Life and Health/HMO Insurance Index (AMBULH) closed at 609.39 (+0.73%). Leading the AMBULH were Genworth Financial (+41.77%) and National Western Life Insurance (+16.54%). Trailing the AMBULH were Principal Financial Group (-7.08%) and Unum Group (-6.42%).

The U.S. Health and HMO Index (AMBUH) closed at 649.81 (+0.57%). Leading the AMBUH were Triple-S Management Corp. (+10.48%) and Universal American (+5.99%). Trailing the AMBUH were Unum Group (-6.42%) and Aflac Inc. (-0.50%).

The U.S. Insurance Brokers Index (AMBUB) closed at 929.17 (-0.57%). Leading the AMBUB were eHealth Inc. (+10.93%) and AmTrust Financial Services Inc. (+6.11%). Trailing the AMBUB were Willis Group Holdings (-2.87%) and Brown & Brown (-1.96%).
