Patrick and Jane Thiele purchased the property for $1,825,000, according to the Washington County Assessor's Office. The estate will not be the buyers' principal residence.
Patrick Thiele is CEO of Bermuda-based reinsurer PartnerRe. Reinsurers sell insurance to insurance companies to spread out their risk on large or risky policies. Thiele has been the chief executive of PartnerRe since 2000.
He worked for The St. Paul, now Travelers, for 20 years, leaving his position as head of worldwide insurance operations in 1998.
Lange bought the former bed-and-breakfast at 903 Fourth St. N. in 1994 for $415,000. She and Shepard lived there for about nine years. The property includes a 6,000-square-foot home, tiered gardens and sweeping St. Croix River views.
When the estate was offered for sale in 2004, the price was $3.3 million.
