Alsius Corporation signs contract with Novation LLC for three years

PowerRating -- Alsius Corporation (Nasdaq: ALUS), a medical device company, declared
yesterday (18 December) that Novation LLC and the company have signed a
three year contract to provide intravascular temperature management
products to Novation's network of over 2,500 member hospitals.

Representing over USD33.1bn in annual US healthcare spending, Novation
is a group purchasing organisation (GPO) and is part of the University
HealthSystem Consortium (UHC), an alliance of academic medical centres
and their affiliated hospitals representing around 90% of US non-profit
academic medical centres. The agreement will be effective from 1
January 2009.

Alsius intravascular temperature management (IVTM) consists of the
CoolGard 3000 and Thermogard XP systems and a family of single-use
catheters, including the Cool Line, Icy, Fortius, Solex and Quattro
catheters. The catheters decrease or increase core temperature from the
inside of the body out toward the exterior, allowing for control of a
patient's core body temperature, with precision, compared to
conventional external temperature management products such as cooling
and warming blankets and ice packs.
