The vehicle's 1.5-liter engine classifies it as a compact, but it features three passenger rows.
The new minivan is designed for mothers raising families, and the two automakers seek to capture demand among women who are switching from minicars.
The compact minivan was developed and is produced by Daihatsu, which supplies the vehicle to Toyota under an OEM arrangement.
It is sold as the Passo Sette by Toyota, while its Daihatsu name is Boon Luminas.
The vehicle sells for up to 200,000 yen less than the competition.
Monthly sales are targeted at 3,000 units for the Passo Sette and 500 for the Boon Luminas.
