Nanya Technology and MediaTek were in focus, with Nanya rising over 2 pct on a report that it is planning to raise prices of dynamic random access memory chips by 10 pct soon, and MediaTek surging over 5 pct on a report that it secured chip contracts from Japan's Sharp Corp.
Among losers, Ta Chen Stainless Pipe lost 2.17 pct on news that its US unit wrote down 170 mln usd on its 2008 inventory.
At 9.03 am, the weighted index was up 68.66 points or 1.45 pct at 4,795.92, after opening up 53.18 points at 4,780.44.
Turnover was 5.15 bln twd.
The electronics sector index was up 2.01 pct.
