According to a release, when EDS acquired Saber in November 2007, the company became known as Saber Government Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of EDS. The most recent name change is part of a strategic initiative leveraging the strengths of Saber, EDS and HP to enhance the combined company's existing offerings and expand its footprint into new areas in the state and local market.
The EDS State and Local Government unit delivers IT solutions in election management, motor vehicle administration, tax and revenue management, child support enforcement, child care management, public retirement benefits administration, public safety and justice, unemployment insurance, and IT outsourcing.
"With Saber adopting the EDS name, we reaffirm our commitment to the state and local government market and the continued success of our clients," said Frank Chechile, vice president of the State and Local Government unit at EDS, an HP Company. "This transition will provide our clients with access to comprehensive solutions focused on the needs of citizens; solutions that are enhanced by EDS' best-in-class service offerings and HP's industry-leading hardware and software."
As a provider of IT services, EDS has helped protect the critical needs of national, state, local and provincial governments for 46 years.
EDS' State and Local Government unit will be managed out of EDS' U.S. Public Sector organization in Herndon, Va. The EDS U.S. Public Sector team provides a full spectrum of technology services to federal, state, local government agencies across the United States.
