Under the investment the company has expanded its FiOS TV service to a further 29 Massachusetts communities.
Verizon said that it is building its FiOS network in over 100 communities and by the end of this year expects to offer FiOS TV in many more communities in the state.
The company has also brought Verizon High Speed Internet service to 24 western Massachusetts communities where broadband Internet has never been available. In addition, Verizon has made its High Speed Internet service more widely available in Shutesbury. This project, which was completely financed by Verizon, complements the state's plan to expand the availability of broadband service throughout Massachusetts.
The company has also enhanced its FiOS TV offerings, by adding over 90 new channels, including 71 more high-definition (HD) channels, to the company's FiOS TV line-up in Massachusetts. FiOS TV now offers over 500 total channels, featuring over a 100 HD channels.
A part of the investment also includes the opening of a new Verizon Lifestyle Store inside Jordan's Furniture in Reading, creating a number of new sales and customer service jobs.
The company also said that Verizon Wireless, a provider of wireless voice and data network and a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) and Vodafone (NYSE:VOD)(LSE: VOD), has reportedly invested over USD2.2bn in its New England wireless network since 2000, including over USD100m during the first six months of 2008. As a result, now every New England Verizon cell site provides wireless broadband connectivity.
