The 240,000-square-foot center in Humboldt Industrial Park East, Hazle Township, will be the distribution point for Tootsie Roll's 36 brands to locations throughout the Northeast and the Atlantic Seaboard, Gordon said.
Distribution services are expected to begin sometime in late March at the building the company purchased in late December from Exeter Property Group of the Philadelphia area.
"We're very happy to have a world-class company like Tootsie Roll in our industrial park," said E. Thomas Sandrock, chairman of the board of CAN DO Inc. "We have heard such great things about the company and welcome them as a member of our ever-growing list of companies that have found Greater Hazleton to be a great location for economic development."
Gordon said that several factors led the company to choose the Hazleton area.
"Company officials from Chicago spent a considerable amount of time in Hazleton over the past six months studying the area, its workforce and what it has to offer our company," Gordon said. "Our vice president of distribution himself stayed in Hazleton for more than 10 days, just getting to know people without them knowing who he was or why he was there."
