This means all United flights from Tucson will be United Express, which is operated by a number of regional carriers, including SkyWest Airlines. Its nonstop flight to Denver will continue, but with fewer passengers in a smaller airplane operated by a regional carrier, United Airlines spokesman Jeff Kovick said.
As for the ground operations in Tucson, it's not clear what will happen to the 39 United employees at Tucson International Airport. The company may outsource its ground operations, which include ticket counter service and baggage handling.
However, United Airlines spokesman Jeff Kovick said United employees will be included in the process of selecting a service provider at Tucson International Airport.
United currently operates non-stop flights from Tucson to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Denver.
