CHUFF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- China Telecom, one of the three 3G license bearers in China, is scheduled to kick off CDMA 2000 services in late February to compete head on with China Mobile's TD-SCDMA 3G services and China Unicom's WCDMA.

First it will launch the 3G services in some major cities such as Shanghai, according to an executive from Shanghai Telecom.

China Telecom plans to switch its regular subscribers using 133- and 153-prefix mobile phone numbers to 189-prefix 3G services before the end of March, 2009.

Zhang Jiping, general manager of China Telecom, says that China Telecom will take three months to get its network prepared for the launch of 3G services. And then it will kick off officially 3G services in 100 cities around the country.

In Beijing, China Telecom is scheduled to finish upgrading its CDMA networks to WCDMA before February 28, 2009.
