Should the extension be approved, 3SBio stated that it expects TPIAO for ITP to be the only treatment of its kind available in China.
TPIAO was launched in 2006 and is a recombinant human thrombopoietin product approved in China for the treatment of chemotherapy induced thrombocytopenia, or platelet deficiency.
ITP is an immune system malfunction that perceives the body's platelets are foreign and destroys them, which can potentially cause dangerously low platelet counts. In China there are currently around 80,000 patients diagnosed with ITP.
