PowerRating -- Business prospects in Taiwan
will remain gloomy in the first half of the year, but are
expected to improve after that, Bough Lin, chairman of
SILICONWARE PRECISION INDUSTRIES CO. LTD. (SPIL), forecast
Wednesday. The Taichung County-based SPIL is one of the world's
leading IC packaging and testing service providers, employing
15,000 people.
* It held a business presentation Wednesday that attracted
many mutual fund managers and representatives of financial
institutions.
* In his address, Lin said he expected the production value
of the semiconductor sector to drop by between 15 per cent and
30 per cent this year, and that the IC packaging industry will
see a similar decline of output value due to the global
recession.
