Lattelecom selects ECI to build FTTH network

Feb 12, 2009 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- ECIL | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Lattelecom, a provider of electronic communications services in Latvia, has selected Israel-based ECI Telecom to build a high-speed FTTH network.

As part of the agreement, ECI will be providing Lattelecom with ongoing technical support and professional services together with its partner Dan Communications.

Lattelecom has selected ECI's Hi-FOCuS multi-service access node for its gigabit passive optical network (GPON) capabilities to build the new network.

As part of the project, Lattelecom will first launch commercial services in the capital-city Riga, where customers will be able to access speeds of 100Mbps, increasing to up to 500Mbps by the end of year 2009, and will look to expand the service nation wide thereafter.

Valdis Vancovics, chief technology officer of Lattelecom, said: "Building today a network of tomorrow is an ambitious and challenging project, and is a testament of our ongoing commitment to provide our customers with the most advanced services possible. ECI's significant experience in GPON deployment, coupled with its ability to deliver an industry leading platform solution that will support our needs today, and well into the future, were strong considerations in our decision."
