Trump Entertainment Resorts and its two subsidiaries have filed for "relief" under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code, the company said in a statement.
The two subsidiaries of the firm are Trump Entertainment Resorts LP and Trump Entertainment Resorts Funding Inc.
The company has also asked for court approval to continue to pay its vendors in the normal course of business.
"This filing will result in no immediate change in our daily operations, and we expect to make no changes regarding our operating structure or philosophy.
"We remain focused on operating as efficiently as possible in this strained economic environment...," the company's chief executive officer Mark Juliano said.
The firm has filed the petition in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey in Camden, New Jersey.
